It is one of the State Houses of Assembly established by Section 90 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and endowed with powers to legislate as well as privileges and immunities to enable it exercise these powers without hindrance.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly is the political head of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Elected by the Members of the Assembly, the speaker's statutory duty is to preside over the sitting and deliberations of the Assembly.
