“AVOID SENSATIONAL NEWS DEVOID OF FACTS” – NEWLY APPOINTED HOUSE CHAIRMAN ON INFORMATION, HON. SETONJI ADDRESSES HOUSE PRESS

The newly appointed Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy & Security, Hon. Setonji David during a familiarisation meeting with the media correspondence of the Lagos State House of Assembly, LAHACA on Monday expressed concerns to the press officials urging them to avoid sensational news devoid of facts that seeks to misinform the public.

Hon. David explained that the meeting was also part of his oversight function as Chairman to establish a harmonious relationship aimed at ensuring better understanding and enlightening of events surrounding the House of Assembly.

“As a trailblazer for other State House of Assemblies in this Country, we are concerned with the image this House projects to the world; therefore it is in our best interest to partner with the media as you are part and parcel of this government. For democracy to survive, we need the media, so your role cannot be over emphasised, however, we must ensure that the reportage of the media is with true facts and devoid of ambiguity.”

“So this is why we hold this meeting to acquaint the House with the Media Outlet correspondence, as there should be no end to engagements for necessary background information to condition your reportage. Let us work harmoniously to report the true distinguished image of this great House.” He said.

Adding to the matter of importance, the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Correspondence Association, LAHACA, Mr. Lanre Akinsanya also reassured the Committee that an array of publications concerning the Plenary Sessions, Public Hearings and major activities of the House would be reported as it is their duty and why they are posted from their various media outlets to the Assembly.

The meeting was attended by all the Media Outlet Correspondence posted to the House.
