CONSTRUCTION CRISIS: LAGOS ASSEMBLY WADES INTO TUSSLE, BEGINS INVESTIGATION

As part of its legislative function, the Lagos State House of Assembly, through its Ad Hoc Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, has made an oversight function visit to the Office of Natcomm Development and Investment Limited.

The visit is sequel to an allegation brought before the House on :”obstruction of right of way” that is reportedly affecting the ease of movement in and around the company by a firm named Media Care Limited.

It was also alleged that there was an excavation being carried out directly opposite its entrance gate.

Upon enquiry, the engineers on site was said to have been handed a letter with a caption ‘Application for the expression of interest to fabricate and install mini gantries in Lagos State’. The letter was dated 6th of July, 2020 and supposedly from the Lagos State Government.

The Committee earlier had a meeting with the leadership of Natcomm Development and the officials of the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency as well as those of the Ministry of Transportation .

A Lagos State official present at the meeting said, “The Ministry of Transportation is responsible for erection of standard gantries in the State”

“We always take a painstaking effort to erect because we want to ensure that it is free from all encumbrances and we work together with the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency because the roads are controlled by us.

“We ensure that whatever we are recommending is free from encumbrances and LASAA is the one that gives the final permit while it is our duty to give direction.”

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Nureni Akinsanya, who led his colleagues to the place, made a tour to the Firm and assured them that the findings would be compiled into report and submitted for further legislative action.
