Lagos Assembly Approves Ambode’s Nominees, Passes Three Bills Into Laws

Lagos State House of Assembly at plenary on Thursday screened and confirmed six nominees of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for various executive positions.
The nominees are the new commissioners designate; while one is for Special Adviser, the sixth nominee is to serve as a member of the Lagos State Sport Commission Governing Board.
The nominees are Mr. Hakeem Popoola Fahm as commissioner, ministry of science and technology, Mr.Oladipupo Lawanson, commissioner of transportation, Mr. Segun Banjo, commissioner, ministry of economic planning and budget and Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, commissioner, ministry of commerce, industry and cooperatives.
Suleiman Hakeem is to serve as Special Adviser on communities and communications, while the erstwhile state table tennis star, Mrs. Toyin Okenla Ojeaga is to serve as member of the Lagos State Sports Commission Governing Board.
The screening was more of a formality as Obasa said before the screening that the nominees should just show their faces and introduce themselves.
Consequently, apart from Okenla-Ojeaga who was asked a few questions others were not asked any question. They just introduced themselves, the schools they attended, their marital status and their working experience and left.
After the screening, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa told the nominees that the House would get back to them.
Also the house took the third readings of the following bills and consequently passed into law: the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, Lagos State Teaching Service Commission Law and Lagos State House of Assembly Commission Law.
The amended LAHASCOM law addresses the increase in the number of Deputy Clerk to four, Deputy Clerk Legislative, Deputy Clerk Legislative drafting, Deputy Clerk Publication and Public Affairs, Deputy Clerk, Human Resources and Accounts.
The House thereafter adjourned sitting to March 19, 2018.
